Alexandra Godoy

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your current role?

My name is Alexandra, I’m from Venezuela but living in Chile 9 years ago. I currently work as a Brewing Production Supervisor.

My journey in the beer industry started 8 year ago, as a waitress in the brewery’s bar. Being close to the product and the brewers every day sparked my curiosity about the process behind the beer.

That curiosity turned into a career. In June 2024, I started working in production, directly involved in brewing operations and process control. Transitioning from front-of-house to production has given me a well-rounded perspective from customer experience to technical execution.

I hold a CIBD certification (2025), a Microbrewery Diploma in Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (Chile 2023), and I am also Certified Beer Server through the Cicerone program (2023). I’m passionate about quality, continuous improvement, and proving that growth in this industry is possible with dedication and commitment.

What path led you into the drinks industry, and what drew you to the role you’re in now?

As a woman in the industry, I became very aware of the stereotypes and motivated me even more. I wanted to challenge those expectations and prove to myself and others that women belong in production, in technical roles, and in leadership within brewing.

I started studying, earning certifications, and actively seeking opportunities to transition into production. Today, working in brewing operations feels like both a professional achievement and a personal statement about growth, capability, and breaking barriers.

What are you currently working towards or enjoying most in your role?

Currently, I’m focused on strengthening my technical expertise in process control and efficiency within the brewhouse. I’m especially enjoying the responsibility of monitoring critical parameters and optimizing production performance. At the same time, I’m continuously studying and developing myself to grow into higher leadership roles within brewing. My goal is to keep advancing technically while taking on more strategic responsibility in the future.

Is there something you’ve learned so far - about the industry or about yourself - that you didn’t expect when you started?

One thing I didn’t expect when I started was how demanding and precise brewing truly is. From the outside, beer can seem simple or even romanticized, but in reality, it requires discipline, technical knowledge, and constant attention to details.

On a personal level, I didn’t expect to discover how resilient and determined I could be. Transitioning from the restaurant to production challenged me in many ways, but it also showed me that I’m capable of much more than I initially thought.

Is there anything you’d like to share with other women considering a career in the drinks industry? Or any final thoughts you’d like to share?

To any woman considering a career in the drinks industry: take your place with confidence. You don’t need permission to pursue technical roles, production, or leadership. The industry is stronger when women are involved in decision-making, innovation, and process development. Our voice, discipline, and perspective add real value. Don’t aim to simply be included, aim to influence, to improve, and to lead. There is space for us not just to be present, but to make a lasting impact.
